Wed 27th December 2017 - MANDATORY PRE-TOUR BRIEFING

4PM: The group assembles in our Beijing office for a mandtory pre-tour briefing, which will last approximately 1 hour and is designed so that you will get the best out of your tour.

Thu 28th December 2017 - ARRIVAL DAY

AM: Meet together outside the office (time to be confirmed) and head to Beijing Airport T2 for our flight from Beijing to Pyongyang (1.5 hrs), the showcase capital of the DPRK
PM: Meet guides who will accompany you during your stay, Arch of Triumph – similar to the French version (but bigger)
OVERNIGHT: Yanggakdo Hotel, Pyongyang

Fri 29th December 2017 - PANMUNJOM/DMZ & KAESONG

Drive to Kaesong (2.5 hrs) - A historical city near the DMZ which avoided being destroyed in the Korean War, visit the Panmunjom/DMZ - boundary between North and South Korea and the Kaesong Koryo Museum - preserved Confucian museum in the old part of town
PM: Return to Pyongyang (2.5 hours), Kwangbok Department Store - Opportunity to use Korean currency and shop with the citizens of Pyongyang! Try the snack stand on the first floor for some of Pyongyang’s best local eats.

Sat 30th December 2017 - PYONGYANG CITY TOUR

AM:
Pyongyang Feature Film Studio - See the home of 'Cholliwood', the DPRK's domestic film industry. Visits sets of traditional Korea, colonial Korea, China, Europe, and more! Jongsong Revolutionary Site - A system of underground tunnels and bunkers used by Korean government’s cabinet during the 1950’s. Mansudae Art Studio -The DPRK’s centre of artistic excellence, where the majority of sculptures, mosaics, and paintings around the country are made. Visit workshops to see artists at work and an exhibition where pieces are sold.
PM: Victorious Fatherland Liberation War Museum - Tour this world-class museum led by a local museum guide. Renovated in 2012 and it exhibits the Korean War from the DPRK perspective containing artifacts, documents, photos, and lifelike dioramas. The exterior grounds house the War Victory Monument and displays of Korean People’s Army Hero Equipment and captures equipment from the US military, including the USS Pueblo. Central to the understanding of the country today and highlight of the trip. Changwangwon Leisure Complex (haircuts, massages, swimming pool are all available!) – Huge health and leisure facility with Olympic-sized pool, barber shops, beauty salons, massage, and saunas.

Sun 31st January 2017 - PYONGYANG CITY TOUR

AM:
Kumsusan Palace of the Sun - Mausoleum of the DPRK leadership where President Kim Il Sung and Leader Kim Jong Il lie in state and the most solemn location on the itinerary. Please note formal dress is required. Men require collared shirt with tie, dark non-jean pants, and dark shoes. Women require covered shoulders, knee-length dress or pants, and closed toed shoes. The visit will take most of the morning and visitors are asked to bow a number of times inside. Revolutionary Martyrs’ Cemetery  – Hilltop cemetery with dozens of bronze busts of those who took part in the liberation of Korea from Japanese colonial rule. Foreign Languages Bookshop  – Store selling Korean publications translated into English, German, French, Russian, Chinese, and Spanish. Kim Il Sung Square - Pyongyang’s central square lined with government ministries, museum and The Grand People’s Study House, Korea’s national library.
PM: Juche Tower - Iconic tower dedicated to the DPRK’s guiding philosophy on the Taedong River. Take the elevator to the top for great views of the city. Monument to the Party Foundation - Iconic structure featuring the hammer, sickle, writing brush which represent the workers, farmers, and intellectuals that make up the Worker’s Party of Korea. Mangyongdae Native House - Birthplace and childhood home of President Kim Il Sung. A traditional Korean house in a beautiful natural surrounding. Golden Lane Bowling Centre - Where Pyongyang locals go for their ten-pin fix. Also has billiards and arcade games. Non-bowlers can head next door to the Kumrung Leisure Centre for an airgun shooting range and some of the best coffee in Pyongyang. Taedonggang Bar No. 3  - Upscale bar across the street from the Tower of the Juche Idea. There are a variety of beers on tap produced at Pyongyang’s Taedonggang Brewery outside of town. Dinner on Pyongyang’s Rainbow Boat on the Taedong River where we'll have our New Year’s Eve Party! with a great view on Kim Il Sung Square and the fireworks display!

Monday 1st January 2018 - PYONGYANG CITY TOUR

AM: NEW YEAR DAY - DPRK HOLIDAY Mansudae Grand Monument -Enormous bronze statues of President Kim Il Sung and Leader Kim Jong Il overlooking downtown Pyongyang. A presentation of flowers and bow by the group is customary here. Here we will also see the Chollima Monument - a symbol of speed commemorating the quick rebuilding of the country in the 1950’s following the Korean War. Pyongyang Metro Tour -One of the deepest metro systems in the world with stunning artwork reflecting the name of each station. Ride six stations on the Chollima Line. Grand People’s Study House -National library and public university in neo-traditional Korean style building overlooking  Kim Il Sung Square. Gain insight into higher education and research in the DPRK and great views of Pyongyang.
PM: Munsu Water Park -We’ll take a break at the indoor part of this water park with water slides, lap pools, and hot tubs. Bar, coffee shop, and shops for non-swimmers. Maeri Shooting Range -Shoot at targets with low caliber sports pistols and rifles in the facility that trained Olympic medalists. Duck Barbecue Restaurant -South Pyongyang’s famous grilled duck restaurant that has seen many teary-eyed farewells.

Tue 2nd January 2018 - DEPARTURE DAY

The flight departs Pyongyang at 08:30 and arrives in Beijing at approx 10:00am. The train departs Pyongyang at 10:10am and arrives in Beijing at approx 08:30am next morning. End of tour.

DPRK VISA FEE: $75 (to be paid at the pre-tour meeting)
PRE-TOUR MEETING: Wednesday 27th December 2017, 4PM, at our office in Beijing
EXPECTED WEATHER: It will be cold, no higher than 5 °C so bring warm clothes.

TOUR FEE INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING:

  1. Flight Beijing-Pyongyang, plane/train Pyongyang-Beijing
  2. All meals on the tour except on the train out of DPRK – see below
  3. Hotel accommodations in DPRK
  4. All entry fees
  5. Two guides and a driver per group
  6. All transportation in DPRK
  7. Transportation to Beijing airport prior to departure to DPRK.

NOT INCLUDED IN THE TOUR FEE (all payments paid in cash) :

  1. Transportation from your country to Beijing and hotel stay in Beijing
  2. Travel insurance (can be purchased at the pre-tour briefing)
  3. Optional single room supplement of $60 per night (must be booked in advance and can be pre-paid in US with credit card)
  4. Spending money for drinks and souvenirs
  5. DPRK visa fee ($75)
  6. Tip for the guides (approx $7/day)
  7. Meals on the train out of DPRK - (bring your own food or eat dinner and lunch in the buffet car approx $10 per person)
  8. Entry tickets for special events (Revolutionary opera, circus , etc).
  9. The lift up the Juche Tower (approx $6)
  10. Meals will have a complimentary beer but you will have to pay for extra drinks above those provided. If you are vegetarian or have special dietary requirements then please inform us beforehand
