Fri 1st Sep – MANDATORY PRE-TOUR BRIEFING

4PM: The group assembles in our Beijing office for a pre-tour briefing, which will last approximately 1 hour and is designed so that you will get the best out of your tour.

Sat 2nd Sep – ARRIVAL DAY

AM: Meet together outside the office (time to be confirmed) and head to Beijing Airport T2 for our flight from Beijing to Pyongyang (1.5 hrs), the showcase capital of the DPRK
PM: Meet guides who will accompany you during your stay, Arch of Triumph – similar to the French version (but bigger)
OVERNIGHT: Yanggakdo Hotel, Pyongyang

Sun 3rd Sep – PYONGYANG CITY TOUR

AM: Kumsusan Memorial Palace of the Sun,where North Korean leaders Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il lie in state. Revolutionary Martyrs’ Cemetery. Here, you will see superb individually- crafted bronze busts of the country’s anti-Japanese heroes, including one of Kim Jong Suk (the mother of Kim Jong Il). Foreign Languages Bookshop and take a leisurely stroll through the streets of Pyongyang. On our journey, we walk through the heart of the city, and stop by Kim Il Sung Square. This is where the capital’s mass dances take place and the military parades pass through.
PM: Kwangbok Supermarket (where you can spend and change your money into Korean Won at the black market exchange rate), Railway Museum – Museum dedicated to the development of the DPRK’s railways with a number of antique engines and cars on display. Pyongyang Zoo  – Newly renovated zoological gardens at the foot of Mt. Taesong popular with locals. Pyongyang Feature Film Studios - also known as Chollywood - see the sets used in the DPRK's feature films.

Mon 4th Sep - NAMPO

AM:
Ride the full Pyongyang Metro! – One of the deepest metro systems in the world with stunning artwork reflecting the name of each station. Drive to Nampo (1.5 hours), Lamb BBQ lunch at Mt Ryonggak
PM: West Sea Barrage (8km long dam seperateing the Taeding river from the West Sea of Korea), Kangso Mineral Water Factory, where naturally-carbonated water being bottled, Chollima Steelworks - a major heavy industry site of the DPRK, known to Koreans as the birthplace of the Chollima Movement and famous for making ‘Juche Steel’. Chonsam-ri Co-operative farm - the DPRK’s most famous farm visited a number of times by the President Kim Il Sung.
OVERNIGHT: Ryonggang Hot Spa Hotel, Nampo

Tue 5th Sep – SINCHON & SARIWON

AM: Drive to Sinchon County. Mt. Kuwol mountain area, Woljong Buddhist Temple, Sinchon Town, Atrocities Museum (museum details alleged massacre of civilians by US troops in this area during Korean War)
PM: Drive to Sariwon, Sariwon Folk Village - mock-up of traditional Korean architecture, drive to Kaesong - a historical city near the DMZ which avoided being destroyed in the Korean War (1 hour)
OVERNIGHT: Minsok Folk Hotel, Kaesong (beautiful courtyard hotel where guests sleep on heated floors in traditional Korean style)

Wed 6th Sep – DMZ & KAESONG

AM: Walk through the old traditional streets of Kaesong, Panmunjom/DMZ - the demarcation line between North and South Korea, local park & pavilion, Koryo Museum (former Confucian college, shows history of the area), Sonjok Bridge
PM: Tomb of King Kongmin (dynastic King of Korea), Concrete Wall (South Korean anti-tank barrier deep in the DMZ), Janam Hill (with Kim Il Sung statue, offers views over the old city)
OVERNIGHT: Minsok Folk Hotel, Kaesong

Thu 7th Sep – HAEJU

AM: drive to Haeju (1.5 hours) - rarely-visited city, Gyenam Stock Farm – a livestock farm for cows, goats, and rabbit, Sokdam Ravine - picnic lunch in the area which features the remains of the 16th Century Sohyon School
PM: Koryo Fortress which is situated above a split 120m waterfall, in a prime defensive position, Buyong Pavilion - largest pavilion in the DPRK, return to Pyongyang (2.5 hours), dinner at hot pot restaurant
OVERNIGHT: Yanggakdo Hotel, Pyongyang

Fri 8th Sep - PYONGYANG CITY TOUR

AM: Mansudae Art Studio (where paintings, mosaics, statues, etc are made), Grand People’s Study House. Supposedly stocked with over 3 million books, this enormous library/place of study has a great view over Kim Il Sung Square. Jonsong Revolutionary Site - a system of tunnels used as a wartime base
PM: Vintage tram ride around the city, Victorious Fatherland Liberation War Museum (Korean War Museum) where you can learn the history of the Korean War from the North Korean perspective, USS Pueblo (US spy ship captured in 1968), Drinks at a local beer bar
OVERNIGHT: Yanggakdo Hotel, Pyongyang

Sat 9th Sep - NATIONAL DAY CELEBRATIONS!

AM: DPRK HOLIDAY - NATIONAL DAY: Fountain Park, Mansudae Grand Monument (giant statues of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il), Mangyongdae Native House (birthplace of Kim Il Sung), Mangyongdae Funfair
PM:
Picnic lunch with the locals in Moranbong Park, Juche Tower (150m stone monument allowing for stunning views over Pyongyang from the top), Party Foundation Monument (sculpture of hammer, sickle and calligraphy brush commemorating 50 years of the Workers' Party rule), expected Mass Dance in Kim Il Sung Square, Golden Lane Bowling Centre - where Pyongyangers go for their ten-pin fix, also has some early 90s arcade games. There is also a shooting range next door where you can fire 20 rounds for $6. We’ll round off the holiday celebrations with a well-deserved drink at Taedonggang Number 3 Bar! Kaeson Youth Funfair!
OVERNIGHT: Yanggakdo Hotel, Pyongyang

Sun 10th Sep – PYONGSONG

AM: Munsu Waterpark – We’ll take a break at this outdoor and indoor water park with water slides, lap pools, and hot tubs. Drive to Pyongsong (40 min)
PM: Pyongsong Central Square and statues - with statues of the DPRK leadership and flanked by the provincial revolutionary museum. Kim Jong Suk Higher Middle School (named after the mother of Kim Jong Il), Paeksong Revolutionary Site, where Kim Il Sung University was moved to in 1952 during the Korean War. Pyongsong Conservatory of Performing Arts (including performance) - local school focusing on talents in the performing and visual arts, see an excellent performance here. Drive to Mt. Myohyang - the Mountain of Mysterious Fragrance (1.5 hrs)
OVERNIGHT: Chongchon Hotel, Mt Myohyang 

Mon 11th Sep – MT MYOHYANG

AM: International Friendship Exhibition - a series of enormous subterranean exhibition rooms housing gifts given to the DPRK’s leaders by foreign political figures, Pohyon Buddhist Temple - Historical holy temple that originates from 1042,
PM: Manpok Valley hike, Return to Pyongyang (2 hours) via the Ryongmun Caves - a stunning series of grottoes and subterranean caves. Diplomatic Club for dinner and drinks -  leisure complex with restaurant, swimming pool, bar, karaoke, billards, and banquet hall for foreigners residing and visiting Pyongyang. Open late! 
OVERNIGHT: Yanggakdo Hotel, Pyongyang

Tue 12th Sep - DEPARTURE DAY

AM: The flight leaves Pyongyang at 09:00 and gets back to Beijing at approx 10:00. The train departs at 10:40 and gets back to Beijing at 08:30 next morning. End of Tour.

DPRK VISA FEE: $75
PRE-TOUR MEETING: Friday 1st September, 4PM, at our office in Beijing
EXPECTED WEATHER: It will be hot and and humid around this time with possible rain showers, around 20-25° C Raincoat/umbrella advised! Also, bring warmer clothes for Mt Paekdu and Chilbo as it will be colder up there.

TOUR FEE INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING:

  1. Flight Beijing-Pyongyang, plane/train Pyongyang-Beijing
  2. All meals on the tour except on the train out of DPRK – see below
  3. Hotel accommodations in DPRK
  4. All entry fees
  5. Two guides and a driver per group
  6. All transportation in DPRK
  7. Transportation to Beijing airport prior to departure to DPRK.

NOT INCLUDED IN THE TOUR FEE (all payments paid in cash) :

  1. Transportation from your country to Beijing and hotel stay in Beijing
  2. Travel insurance (can be purchased at the pre-tour briefing)
  3. Optional single room supplement of $60 per night (must be booked in advance and can be pre-paid in US with credit card)
  4. Spending money for drinks and souvenirs
  5. DPRK visa fee ($75)
  6. Tip for the guides (approx $7/day)
  7. Meals on the train out of DPRK - (bring your own food or eat dinner and lunch in the buffet car approx $10 per person)
  8. Entry tickets for special events (Revolutionary opera, circus , etc).
  9. The lift up the Juche Tower (approx $6)
  10. Meals will have a complimentary beer but you will have to pay for extra drinks above those provided. If you are vegetarian or have special dietary requirements then please inform us beforehand
