Fri 30th June - MANDATORY PRE-TOUR BRIEFING

4PM: The group assembles in our Beijing office for a pre-tour briefing, which will last approximately 1 hour and is designed so that you will get the best out of your tour.

Sat 1st July - ARRIVAL DAY
AM:
Meet together outside the office (time to be confirmed) and head to Beijing Airport T2 for our flight from Beijing to Pyongyang (1.5 hrs), the showcase capital of the DPRK
PM: Meet guides who will accompany you during your stay, Arch of Triumph – similar to the French version (but bigger)
OVERNIGHT: Yanggakdo Hotel, Pyongyang

Sun 2nd July - PYONGYANG CITY TOUR

AM: Kumsusan Memorial Palace- Mausoleum where President Kim Il Sunglies in state, Revolutionary Martyrs’ Cemetery - bronze busts of the Koreans who died fighting the Japanese occupation, Mansudae Grand Monument - statue of DPRK President Kim Il Sung. Foreign Languages Bookshop and take a leisurely stroll through the streets of Pyongyang. On our journey, we walk through the heart of the city, and stop by Kim Il Sung Square. This is where the capital’s mass dances take place and the military parades pass through.
PM: Moranbong Park, Pyongyang’s most pleasant central park and a very popular spot for weekend and holiday picnickers. Golden Lane Bowling Centre, where Pyongyang’s residents go for their ten-pin fix. This is a great chance to mix with local people. There is also a shooting range next door where you can fire 20 rounds for $6.   trolley bus ride around the city, Drive to Kaesong (2.5 hours).

Mon 3rd July - PANMUNJOM/DMZ & KAESONG

AM: This morning we’ll walk from the hotel though the old streets of Kaesong up to Janam Hill for views over Kaesong City. Panmunjom/DMZ (the demarcation line between North and South Korea), Koryo Museum (relics of the ancient city), The stamp shop, local park and pavilions.
PM: Return to Pyongyang, Juche Tower - 150m stone tower with lookout platform at the top and great panoramic views of the city, Party Foundation Monument – aniconic sculpture of a hammer, sickle and calligraphy brush which was constructed to celebrate 50 years of Workers’ Party rule.  Pyongyang Metro (extended ride in the world's deepest underground).

Tue 4th July -HAMHUNG

AM: Drive to Hamhung with stops at Sinpyong Lake and Ulim Waterfalls (6 hrs) Hamhung is a major industrial city on DPRK’s east coast which was closed to tourists from 1945 until last year,
PM: Tongbong Cooperative Farm and farmers house, Hamhung city park & Statue of President Kim Il Sung, ancient pavilion for for city views - set on a hillside on the edge of town this area affords views over the city centre and farmland outside of the metropolitan area
OVERNIGHT: Majon Guesthouse, Hamhung

Wed 5th July - WONSAN

AM
: Fertiliser Factory -
a rare chance to see a bit of heavy industry, Home of King Ri Song Gye - one of the rulers of ancient Korea, Hamhung Grand Theatre- the iconic building of the city, dominating  the central area  and bordered by a pleasant lake and park.
PM: Drive to Wonsan (3hrs) –
major city on the east coast of Korea, Wonsan docks and central square - the moored Mangyongbon-92 passenger ship to Japan is based here and the statue of the President overlooking the harbour shows the importance of this port to the DPRK, Songdowon Schoolchildren’s Camp - where Korean children and from several friendly countries spend some weeks in summer, playing and learning, Buddhist Temple, Wonsan Agricultural University

Tongmyong Hotel, Wonsan

Thu 6th July - MT KUMGANG

AM: Drive south approximately 2 hours to the Mt Kumgang area. Upon arrival we take a short walk round Samil Lagoon before having lunch at Mokran Restaurant which is located at the foot of the Kuryong (Nine Dragon) Waterfalls.
PM: We will hike around 2 hours along pathways alongside waterfalls to the first main waterfall. You can take this at your own pace as we will spend a couple of hours in the area so go as fast or as slow as you like. There will be several shuttles back to the hotel and also the option to go to a nearby spa if hiking is not your thing.
OVERNIGHT: Kumgangsan Hotel, Mt Kumgang (internet access available in the telecommunications centre)

Fri 7th July - MT KUMGANG

AM: After breakfast we will drive back along the coast to Wonsan for lunch stopping at a beachside area for a swim if the weather is good.
PM: Drive back to Pyongyang (4 hrs with break at the Sinpyong resthouse halfway), Shooting Range - where DPRK’s Olympic shooters practice with sports weapons , farewell dinner at Duck BBQ restaurant.
OVERNIGHT: Yanggakdo Hotel, Pyongyang

Sat 8th July - DEPARTURE DAY

AM: The flight departs Pyongyang at 09:00 and arrives in Beijing at approx 10:00am. The train departs Pyongyang at 10:40am and arrives in Beijing at approx 08:30am next morning. End of tour.

TOUR COST: $2,290
DPRK VISA FEE: $75 (to be paid at the pre-tour meeting)
PRE-TOUR MEETING: Fri 30th July at 4PM, in our office in Beijing
EXPECTED WEATHER: It will be very warm at this time with possible rain showers, around 25°C during the day. Raincoat/umbrella advised!

TOUR FEE INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING:

  1. Flight Beijing-Pyongyang, plane/train Pyongyang-Beijing
  2. All meals on the tour except on the train out of DPRK – see below
  3. Hotel accommodations in DPRK
  4. All entry fees
  5. Two guides and a driver per group
  6. All transportation in DPRK
  7. Transportation to Beijing airport prior to departure to DPRK.

NOT INCLUDED IN THE TOUR FEE (all payments paid in cash) :

  1. Transportation from your country to Beijing and hotel stay in Beijing
  2. Travel insurance (can be purchased at the pre-tour briefing)
  3. Optional single room supplement of $60 per night (must be booked in advance and can be pre-paid in US with credit card)
  4. Spending money for drinks and souvenirs
  5. DPRK visa fee ($75)
  6. Tip for the guides (approx $7/day)
  7. Meals on the train out of DPRK - (bring your own food or eat dinner and lunch in the buffet car approx $10 per person)
  8. Entry tickets for special events (Revolutionary opera, circus , etc).
  9. The lift up the Juche Tower (approx $6)
  10. Meals will have a complimentary beer but you will have to pay for extra drinks above those provided. If you are vegetarian or have special dietary requirements then please inform us beforehand
